Reviewers invited to evaluate manuscripts submitted to Folia entomologica hungarica are expected to focus on the scientific quality of the manuscript. They should primarily assess whether the scientific content and conclusions (i) are sound, well-grounded, well-structured and follow all relevant international standards (such as the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature), (ii) are based on up to date knowledge of the relevant literature cited properly in the manuscript, (iii) and are interpreted and illustrated in clear and concise ways. Journal-specific formatting of the manuscript is the concern of the editorial board, not of the reviewers.
The submitted review must contain one of the following recommendations: “accept as is”, “accept upon minor revision”, “accept upon major revision”, “reject but re-submission encouraged”, or simply “reject”. The reviewers, if minor or major revision is recommended, are asked to indicate if they would like to check the revised version of manuscript. Criticism should always be constructive and any conflict of interest must be declared. If any parts of the review are intended solely to the editors, it should be clearly expressed in the submitted review. All communications with the editors regarding the review process must be addressed to folia.ent.hung@nhmus.hu, where all mails and documents are archived.
Editors of Folia entomologica hungarica strongly support the open review process, i.e., neither the name(s) of the author(s) nor the name(s) of the reviewer(s) are treated anonymously in the review process by default; reviewers who choose to be anonymous must indicate this request to the editors during the review process, at latest when the review is submitted.
Reviewers should be aware that information contained in the manuscript and accompanying electronic mails is intended solely and exclusively to the addressee and may contain confidential and/or legally protected information. Any transmission, copy or other use, or taking of any action in reliance upon the information contained in the manuscript and accompanying electronic mails is prohibited.
